WN-16 aircraft, built on the very eve of the war, intended primarily for testing the concept with a nose wheel landing gear..The plane was originally called Meindl-van Nes A XV (later HM 15), and was designed in 1937-1938. under the direction of Erich Meindl
After the Anschluss, its further development was taken over by Wiener Neustadt Flugzeugwerke (WNF), and that brought the project to fruition. The final shape of the aircraft was issued in late 1939 and the first flight was made on September 23, with German registration D-ECAB.
The aircraft was tested in Germany, where it was re-equipped motor Walter Micron instead of the old Salmson AD 9.
WN-16 successfully flew up to the autumn of 1942, and then it was transferred to the Technical School in Stuttgart for further testing. There it remained until September 1944, when it was destroyed during a raid by Allied aircraft.
