The extensive testing program resulted in another bomber version, the He 111 D-0. Its progenitor was the the V9 D-AQOX with more powerful DB 600Ga engines .
In fact, that was the only difference from the He 111B. which allowed a speedy commencement of the production of the new version. No constructional changes were required, so production did not need to be interrupted in order to the incorporate new parts assembly. The new engines accelerated the He 111D to a maximum speed of 410 kph.
Overnight, DB 600 engines were now in short supply. With only a few He 111 D-0 rolled out of rhe factory by April 1937, the production of this version had suddenly been put under a queslion mark and was evenlually lo be abandoned altogether.. He 111 Ds that had been builr never found their way to combat units; they were assigned to lesting and experimenlal purposes.
