In 1931, the Focke-Wulf Flugzeugbau GmbH in Bremen tookover  the Albatroswerke. Modified Albatros L 102 = Al 102, after a crash with Kurt Tank as pilot it was discovered that some reinforcement of the wing structure was needed. It  was a revised and equipped with the more powerful Argus As 10C . Designation was changed to Focke Wulf Fw 55 and  seaplaneversion Fw 55W was a sesquiplane and only one was built with the registration D-2711 Overall, about 65 Fw 55 were built to mid-1934 and used at the German Pilot School (DMS) and the NSFK (National Socialist Flying Corps) . After the official announcement of the establishment of the Air Force a few planes were used in the the new flying schools.
