Heinkel He 74 B Training Biplane (Sportflieger 1938)
This single-seat, braced biplane is used as a trainer with special equipment.
Rectangular wings with elliptical tips. Dihedral of the upper wing is 3°, of the smaller lower wing 1°. Aerodynamically well-designed transition from the lower wing to the fuselage.
Two-spar wooden construction. The leading edge and the area between the spars are covered with plywood, with fabric covering behind. I-struts made of light alloy. Profile wire bracing.Ailerons only in the upper wing, actuated by pushrods through the lower wing and I-strut. Landing flaps in the lower wing, actuated by pushrods.
Oval fuselage, welded from steel tubing, tapering into a vertical rib at the rear. The frame is manufactured in individual sub-assemblies and then welded together.
Lightweight wooden paneling to shape the fabric wall covering. Behind the engine is a firewall, fuel tank, above which is a machine gun, followed by the cockpit.
Stick controls, rudder pedals adjustable in flight.
Timbered tail assembly with plywood skinning. Elevator with trim tabs adjustable in flight.
Cantilever landing gear, partially integrated into the leading edge of the wing. The point of attachment for the wires is supported aft by a profile strut.
The braked road wheels (490 x 180 mm) are mounted on Heinkel coil spring struts with oil shock absorbers. Cantilever tail skid.
Engine: Argus "As 10 E" of 235/275 hp, mounted on a rigid strut.
