As the first truly advanced design for a fighter aircraft with a push and pull propeller, the Do P 231 was also developed as a twin aircraft in January 1943.
In the course of development, the initially designed fast fighter aircraft became a powerful Dornier bomber, the Do P 231/1, which was later to be powered by two DB 603 E engines.
