One of llie unsuccessful contenders to the RLM Kampfzerstörer requirement of late 1934. the Do 29 design was submitted in February 1935. Other than minor differences in having a lower-positioned wing, fully-glazed two-man cockpit enclosure raised above the fuselage contours and the solid nose housing a total of six fixed forward-firing MGs and an MG position at the rear of the cockpit (B-Stand), il could not deny its direct ancestiy to the earlier Do 17 of 1934. Dimensionally, it was about the same size as the Junkers Ju 85, the forerunner of the Ju 88. Following completion of a mock-up. the proposal did not receive RLM approval for prototype construction and design work on the project was ordered to be stopped at the beginning of 1936
