The first BMW Strahljäger (jet fighter) design had the BMW 003 jet engine mounted behind the cockpit, within the fuselage. A front air intake was ducted beneath the cockpit to the turbojet, which exhausted above a tail boom. The tail featured a twin fin and rudder design, with the tailplanes exhibiting a small amount of dihedral. A tricycle landing gear arrangement was chosen, with the front gear retracting to the rear and the main gear retracting inwards. Two MK 108 30mm cannon were the designed armament.
