The company has two forerunners: the Badische Luftverkehrsgesellschaft mbH was founded in Karlsruhe in 1919. It opened the Frankfurt-Mannheim-Karlsruhe-Lörrach airmail service in 1920. In 1925 the Badisch-Pfälzische Luftverkehr-AG was founded to promote Baden and Pfälzichen air transport interests. In the year it was founded, it opened a Mannheim-Berlin flight connection from the newly opened Mannheim-Sandhofen airfield. More scheduled flights from there lead daily to Baden-Baden, Dortmund, Frankfurt / Main, Hamburg, Constance, Copenhagen, Munich, Stuttgart, Villingen and Zurich. Both companies merged in May 1926 to form Badisch-Pfälzische Luft-Hansa AG. In the same year, the Mannheim-Heidelberg-Ludwigshafen airport opened. 1933 Merger with the Aviation Company Konstanz GmbH. 1937 renamed Badisch-Pfälzische Flugbetrieb-AG, at the same time the aircraft yard was spun off into Badisch-Pfälzische Flugzeugreparaturwerft GmbH, Karlsruhe. The company was now the operator of the commercial airports in Mannheim, Karlsruhe, Freiburg, Constance, Villingen and Baden Baden. Before that, in 1926, at the request of the  government for a unitary aviation company, “Deutsche Lufthansa” had been created through the merger of Deutsche Aero-Lloyd AG and Junkers Luftverkehr-AG. The airports of the Ges. Suffered severe bomb damage in the Second World War.
