This BMW project was a design for a large mixed-powerplant bomber. Two BMW 109-028 lurboprops and two BMW 109-018 jet engines were to be mounted in the cranked wings between the forward-swept inner seclions and the rear-swept outer sections.
The jet engines positioned below the turboprops were intended for use at take-off, as well as to provide additional speed in the event of interception by the enemy. The two lurboprops allowed for cruise speed while the High-Speed Bomber I was en route to the target area.
Tandem pairs of mainwheels retracted into the mid-fusclage section. Twin nosewheels were located beneath the crew cabin. Two outrigger wheels in the outer wing sections stabilized the machine during take-off and landing. The three man crew cabin in the nose was fully pressurised and it was from here that the defensive armament was remotely-controlled.
