Temporary registration for the 1926 "Deutschen Seeflug-Wettbewerb". Was not ready to the start on the 20th of July 1926, was allowed to be flown later beside the competition. Crashed in October 1926 at the Starnberger See. |
Despite financial difficulties, Udet-Flugzeugbau GmbH built a two-seat reconnaissance seaplane Udet U-13 Bayern in 1926 to participate in the Deutschen Seeflug-Wettbewerb competition . Since at that time there were still restrictions on the construction of military aircraft in Germany, the U-13 was declared as a sports aircraft.
By the beginning of the competition (July 20), they did not manage to build the plane, but nevertheless they handed it over to Warnemünde to participate out of the competition (the aircraft received registration number D-945). During one of the test flights on October 1 of the same year, the plane crashed.
U-13 was the last aircraft of the company. At the beginning of the year, Ernst Udet refused financial assistance from the Americans, and as a result, on August 24, the company ceased to exist and was nationalized. At the end of 1926, all its assets became part of the Bayerischen Flugzeugwerke, which continued to produce the most successful Udet aircraft under the BFW U-12 brand.
