In 1928, Heinkel produced the HD.30 reconnaissance seaplane based on the HD.19 aircraft . It differed from the HD.19 in its somewhat larger dimensions and a Gnome et Rhone Jupiter VI 9Ak engine with a power of 520 hp.

The HD.30 was intended for use on small and medium-sized ships using a steam catapult, also developed by Heinkel. A total of two copies of the aircraft were built.
