In 1939 Wolf Hirth created his own firm after separating from Martin Schempp. He hired Wolfgang HÜTTER as head of the design office, whose first job was on the contracts with the firm Dornier for the Gö-8 and Gö-9. The Gö-8 is a 1/5 scale model of the giant Dornier 214 seaplane project. For the hydrodynamic stability tests of the hull-integrated floats, the model was towed by a boat. These tests were carried out in collaboration with the aerodynamic laboratory of Göppingen.
