History

Farman company launched in 1932 a family of light aircraft with high cantilever wing, starting with the prototype 400. Farman version that was produced in larger numbers was Farman 402  Number built  68 , many of them still flying in 1940. It is therefore not surprising that aircraft   was found by the German army, including the one shown in the photos at Etampes-Mondesir. At least a 402 Farman was repainted with black crosses on the wings and sides of the fuselage, but curiously without swastika on the vertical tail. A total of 14 units were captured.
