The Dietrich DP.V was the last of three commercial aircraft developments by Dietrich-Gobiet Flugzeugwerk AG. The Dietrich DP.V was intended to close the gap between the large Dietrich DP.IV and the much smaller Dietrich DP.IIa, which was designed for sports and training purposes. With almost the same range and payload as the Dietrich DP.IV, this two-seater aircraft was suitable as a small commuter aircraft on routes with low demand, but was particularly suitable as a business jet for small and medium-sized companies or as a transport aircraft. An article in the Kasseler Nachrichten in August 1924 reported on the diverse uses of the Dietrich DP.V,[1] which included surveillance flights, operations in agriculture and fishing, aerial photography missions and flights for meteorological studies.[2][3]
The development of the Dietrich DP.V was abandoned before reaching the prototype stage. For the wide range of commercial applications, the cheaper Dietrich DP.IIa proved sufficient for most users in the early 1920s.
The design of the Dietrich DP.V was largely the same as a scaled-down Dietrich DP.IV. The cockpit area was slimmed down again so that two passengers could sit one behind the other. The wingspan was shortened by 2 meters and a Mercedes D.I engine with 100 hp was used instead of the Siemens engine.
