In 1937, the Flugtechnische Fachgruppe was founded at the TH Braunschweig, which can be regarded as the successor to the previous Akaflieg. From 1941, the SB 4 was built here, a two-seater glider with a somewhat asymmetrical front fuselage section. The pilots sat diagonally one behind the other, i.e. a mixture of side-by-side and tandem arrangements. It already had descent aids on the top and bottom of the wing, similar to today's Schempp-Hirth flaps, and a tail wheel instead of a slip spur. The SB 4 was destroyed in a bomb attack at the end of 1943 before it was completed.
