In May 1925 t Bäumer Aero GmbH- In September 1925 to DVS Staaken. Crashed at the Sachsen Rundflug 19.9. 1925, not rebuilt |
The second project of the German company Baumer Aero GmbH. became a light sports aircraft Bäumer B.II Sausewind (Whirlwind). Its development was led by the brothers Gunther, Walter and Siegfried (Walter, Siegfried Günter). The B.II was the first German aircraft built to aerodynamic requirements and was a two-seat wooden low-wing aircraft powered by a 65 hp Wright L4 Gale engine. (48 kW.).
Already on May 31, 1925, the B.II (received registration number D-639) took part in the Deutschen Rundflug competition, flying 5242 kilometers in 91 hours and 12 minutes (with intermediate landings) and took second place in category B (aircraft with engines up to 80 hp). Already in the next Otto-Lilienthal-Wettbewerb competition, held from June 15 to July 23 of the same year, Sausewind took first place in the 2nd category, developing the highest speed when climbing 100 m in height (183.5 km / h) , reaching a ceiling of 4770 m and showing the best rate of climb (2.11 m/s).
The successes of the B.II did not go unnoticed - in the autumn it was acquired by the Ministry of Transport and transferred to the ownership of the DVS flight school. However, the plane did not stay there for long - already on September 19, as a result of problems with the engine, it crashed and was no longer restored.
